Explain the feeling you had the first time you put on skates.

The first time I put on skates, I felt like I had unlocked a new part of myself.
It was 2020, everyone was in lockdown, and my college track & field season was cancelled so I wanted to find a way to keep active. I used to wear my Mom’s old Bladerunner skates to go to friends’ houses when I was in middle school, and I remembered that moving around was so convenient and fun. So, I made an appointment at the local bike shop and got the very last pair of skates they had in my size. Once I put those skates on, my life seriously did change. I felt motivated, excited, curious, and inspired. It was a memorable day that has led to so many more memorable moments.

What is your inspiration to keep skating?

I think my inspiration is knowing that there is still SO much to learn when it comes to the world of skating. Everything from types of skates, skating techniques, to the hardness of your wheels- the list can go on. Once you’re in it, it’s rewarding to know that there’s always more to every aspect.

We truly believe skating makes a better world. How do you think skating makes the world a better place?

I have been involved with many hobbies and sports, but I have never felt more embraced, included, and supported than in the skating community. There is nothing better than the feeling of lacing up and going for a skate with friends or strangers, and it’s a wonderful thing to see that something so simple, a boot with wheels, can create traditions, meaningful friendships, and ever-lasting memories.

How do you keep progressing and reinventing yourself?

Progression, to me, comes with skating at any opportunity and finding ways to improve myself in order to be a better athlete. I like to split my time between long-distance skates and going to the skatepark, so I have the chance to keep building upon my skills.

What’s the most helpful tip you want to share with any skater?

I think my biggest tip, as someone who is still fresh into the skate world, is don’t compare yourself to others. Your journey is yours and yours only. Be PROUD of your wins, no matter what they look like. As long as you love what you’re doing, you’re set.

Imagine a world filled with animals who can skate. If you could be any of those animals what would you be and why?

I would be my dog, Tito, so he would be way quicker on walks. He is normally very slow but on skates he would be fast and he could do tricks. Maybe even catch a squirrel because he would be so fast.
