Rollerblade® : Back on Top

Ewen Fernandez Takes Gold at the 3 Tracks Trophy

The competition is considered one of the most challenging in the world. Three days, three tracks, hundreds of competitors, and one goal: the 3 Tracks Trophee. In the past, Rollerblade® achieved brilliant results with Alexis Contin or Fabien Hascoët. Now, 11 years after the last victory of the team, Ewen Fernandez wins it again.

The long weekend of races started with a dismal, rainy day in Pibrac, which forced the organization to cancel the races. The original three Tracks were now shortened to just two. On the second day in Valence d’Agen, the skaters had to race prelims in the morning and finals in the afternoon. During the finals (an elimination race), the Rollerblade® World Team skaters showed they were back on top ; thanks to Doucelin Pédicone and Quentin Giraudeau and their excellent team work. The two men finished in the Top 10 and launched their leader, Ewen Fernandez, towards victory.

On the third day in Gujan-Mestras, the program was a little more complicated, with a short distance race (a 1000m) and a points race. Ewen managed to take third place in the 1000m, which helped to secure his leadership at the provisional ranking. In the afternoon, he knew that his opponents would be determined to challenge him. But he also knew that his two team mates would give everything to win the overall classification.

After less than five laps, it started raining, which made the track very slippery and the race very dangerous. A group of four skaters managed to escape and to take some points before the referees decided to stop and postpone the race.  Once the track dried, the race started again. ‘’I had to take the lead and to accelerate in order to join the leaders, » explained Ewen. Ewen finished third, which was enough to climb on the highest step of the podium.

Honorine Barrault : Another Star Athlete of the Weekend
Honorine Barrault is only 16 years old and already a European champion. Hailing from France, she just joined the Rollerblade® team.  Now  she won one of the biggest races in the world in the Junior A category : the 3 Tracks. What an amazing result for the first big competition so far this season!

On the track of Gujan-Mestras, Honorine realized a perfect Monday, by winning both races of the program. First she captured the 1000m in the morning. ‘’I had bad feelings during the heats, but everything ended up perfectly during the finals, » she explained. « It is a quite difficult race to manage because it is neither short, nor long…’’

She had perfect points race in the afternoon too, after a very long breakaway in some difficult conditions (it was very windy and the peloton was chasing hard behind). ‘’When you cross the line in the winning position in such conditions, you know you achieved what you wanted to. I was wondering if I could hold it, if my legs could make it,…’’

Honorine finished second in Valence d’Agen on Sunday, thus winning the overall competiton. ‘’I feel a lot of joy and happiness with this victory. The 3 Tracks is the first big competition of the season and even an important goal. Now I know my level!’’

We are very excited to see Honorine compete in the next races of the season!
