Welcome to the team: Viktor Thorup

Viktor is new to the team and we are very happy to have him. The Danish speed skater on skates and on the ice. He participated in the Olympic Games and hopes to do so again in the near future. Technically speaking he is on top of his game and is fully motivated to reach the peak.

Explain the feeling you had the first time you put on skates.
Though it's been decades, the memory of my first skating experience remains clear. Amidst the long list of sports where physical size plays the major role, making it rather tough for an underdeveloped first grader... I stumbled upon skating. On terrible rental skates, we went recess racing amongst classmates, and it took me little time to realize, I found myself atypically fond of this thrilling sport where technique, skills and fitness proved to be the key to crossing the line first. That same day, I begged my parents to give me a pair of skates, promising it wouldn't be a waste. Guess what brand they got me… Rollerblade®!

What is your inspiration to keep skating?
I'm constantly chasing marginal gains. Knowing that every little detail makes a difference in the end, I keep searching for ways to improve, fueled by an undeniable portion of perfectionism. In addition to the result oriented inspiration, I think skating is an amazing sport, that I take pride in expanding across the globe.

We truly believe skating makes a better world. How do you think skating makes the
world a better place?
The simplicity of skating makes it accessible like few other sports, and it allows people of just about any level of experience to have fun, almost anywhere and anytime. Personally I haven't crossed any alternative, where you can discover places, make friends, have fun and improve fitness across all levels of experience.

How do you keep progressing and reinventing yourself?
I find myself to be extremely self-critical, which constantly pushes me to adapt a somewhat elitist mindset and search for avant-garde ways of optimization. Also, I possess a child-like level of curiosity when it comes to equipment, training programs and health optimizing experimentation.

What’s the most helpful tip you want to share with any skater?
Don't forget to enjoy the process! We have the luxury of practicing a sport that's incredibly complex and beautiful. Work hard and enjoy it.

Imagine a world filled with animals who can skate. If you could be any of those
animals what would you be and why?
Has anybody ever given a pair of skates to a chimpanzee? We might not even have to imagine. I'd pick a dog, since they seem to always be hanging out by my local skating rink, ready to chase me anyways.
