Explain the feeling you had the first time you put on skates.
The first few times were freeing. I felt like I was flying, although I was a kid and barely able to roll if at all… but this sparked my interest and set me on the beautiful path to get the skills I have today. The last 15 years of skating have been the best for me. The feeling of the air rushing over me as I cruise though the streets is like nothing else I have felt. It never gets old! I truly feel at ease and have a great appreciation for nature as I roll through our local greenways in St. Louis.
What is your inspiration to keep skating?
I want to stay strong, agile and healthy! I was given one body, and I want to make the most of it for as long as I can.
We truly believe skating makes a better world. How do you think skating makes the world a better place?
Skating is an outlet for me to get away from life’s distractions and complexities. After a good skating session I feel rejuvenated and I have much greater confidence in handling whatever life throws at me.
How do you keep progressing and reinventing yourself?
I have done my best to keep watching others and the ways in which they move across the ground with their skates. I spend a lot of time thinking about how to move my body in these ways, practicing, failing and eventually, succeeding in learning the new move. I utilize ice skating to a great degree also! The moves I have learned and practiced in the winter get me thinking about how to do them on my inline skates!
What’s the most helpful tip you want to share with any skater?
Learning how to stop gradually and to push properly with your legs early on is all I preach!
Imagine a world filled with animals who can skate. If you could be any of those animals what would you be and why?
Certainly the penguin! I like to just cruise around and explore which I think is what they do all day. Maybe I wouldn’t be as fast any more as one but they seem to always be in a great mood.
